Are you looking to gain confidence and experience of lead climbing? There is no better place to start your lead climbing journey! With almost guaranteed sunshine and dry rock, Tafraout and its surrounding mountains offer the perfect environment to learn the ‘nuts and bolts’ of lead climbing. We offer all manner of tailored courses for those with some previous rock climbing experience from sport / trad single pitch courses to looking at the progression from single to multi-pitch climbing. Our experienced Senior Instructor team are all qualified Mountaineering and Climbing Instructors and members of the Association of Mountaineering Instructors, the representative body for professionally qualified MCI’s in the UK and Ireland.

We provide all the of the kit required and will typically cover the following aspects of lead climbing:

  • Guidebooks, route choice and grading

  • Lead belaying and essential rope-work skills/knots

  • Communication between climbers

  • Placing and rating gear placements
    both passive (nuts,hexs,slings) and active (camming devices)

  • Efficient climbing movement skills and restful positions

  • Equalising gear and building anchors

  • Seconding and gear removal

  • Problem solving and avoidance

  • And of course, lots of climbing!

This route ascends the mountain via its North-west ridge and envolves plenty of scrambling. Its a big day out and good hill fitness is required.
