GUIDED SCRAMBLING / MOUNTAINEERING & MULTI-PITCH ROCK CLIMBING COURSES
Max ratio - 1:2

The Quartzite peaks of the Jebel El Kest range boasts over 2000 routes of various styles, lengths and difficulties with more new routes being added each year. Our experienced Senior Instructor team are all qualified Mountaineering and Climbing Instructors and members of the Association of Mountaineering Instructors, the representative body for professionally qualified MCI’s in the UK and Ireland.

We offer a wide range of bespoke days out for those with some previous experience of scrambling or rock climbing wishing to broaden their skill set and gain knowledge on longer routes in more remote and adventurous terrain.

SCRAMBLING - A type of climbing that involves ascending rocky faces and ridges using both hands and feet, but typically without the use of ropes and technical climbing gear that is essential for more advanced rock climbing. It occupies the middle ground between hiking and technical mountaineering/rock climbing. However as standard, our instructors would carry a rope and other essential equipment if required.

MULTI-PITCH CLIMBING - Multi-pitch rock climbing is a form of climbing that involves ascending routes that are longer than a single rope length. This requires the climb to be divided into multiple sections, or "pitches," each typically ranging from 20 to 60 meters in length. Climbers will typically lead a section of the route and then create a secure ‘belay station’ safeguarding their partner until they reach the same position. This process is repeated until they reach the top of the climb. This technique allows climbers to tackle much taller and more complex routes than single-pitch climbs. We offer Multi-pitch climbing days on both the local Granite tors and nearby Quartzite mountains.

MOUNTAINEERING - Bridging the gap between Scrambling and Multi-pitch climbing, Mountaineering involves a dynamic mixture of the previous 2 techniques. From sometimes moving together whilst remaining roped up on easier terrain to ‘pitching’ sections of route when things get steeper or more technical, it allows for fast and fluid movement on longer ridges and easier graded rock climbs. Often considered a dark art due to its complexity, Mountaineering requires a sound knowledge of all aspects of climbing and the ability to assess which technique is most appropriate to tackle the next section of a route/ridge line safely and efficiently.
